The connection between Diannan and earthenware can be seen from the pottery unearthed from the Haimenkou site. During 713 -792 AD, Jianchuan’s first city was built in Shangxiadeng (or “Shangxiadun” in history) of Diannan. It was known as “Luolu City”. According to The History of the Yuan Dynasty: Records of Geography,“ Luolu City is located 15 miles south of the prefecture. It has already existed since the Tang Dynasty, when it was called ’Wayaocunbei.”The thousands of years of pottery-making history once made “earthenware” a historical and cultural symbol of this area. During its heyday, most people in Diannan knew how to make earthenware. Along the two-kilometer road from Shangdeng Village to Tianma and Fada, there was a great variety of beautiful pottery products, which made it a prosperous pottery street. However, with the change of the times and people’s lifestyles, the once-popular earthenware has lost its significance, gradually fading out of people’s attention. But for Dong Yuechang, the charm of pottery has never lost its luster.
